STORIES OF HOPE & NEW BEGINNINGS
Every Journey
Has a Story
Behind every new beginning is a person who chose to keep moving forward. At Eden Outreach, we have had the privilege of walking alongside individuals as they pursue sobriety, stability, restored relationships, meaningful work, education, and greater independence. These stories offer a glimpse of what can happen when safe housing, accountability, practical support, faith, and a caring community come together.
Real people. Real journeys. New possibilities.

R. ADAMS
FROM HOMELESSNESS TO A NEW DIRECTION
R. Adams came to Eden Outreach after experiencing homelessness and sleeping on the streets. Having grown up in foster care, he completed high school and later stayed with a family member, but conflict eventually left him without a stable place to live. When a concerned woman learned about his situation, she contacted Eden Outreach on his behalf. Eden responded by providing transitional housing and supportive services to help him begin rebuilding stability. Today, R. Adams is looking ahead with hope and plans to pursue his education at a junior college.
A safe place to begin can become the first step toward a very different future.
D. KING
FROM RECOVERY TO SUPPORTING OTHERS IN RECOVERY
D. King came to Eden Outreach after years of struggling with alcohol use, incarceration, and homelessness. After his release from prison, he found himself living on the streets and eventually reached out to Eden for help. Eden provided housing and supportive services while he worked toward rebuilding his life. He later enrolled in chemical-dependency courses, completed his education, and began working in the treatment field. Today, D. King works at a Dallas-area facility where he helps others facing substance-use challenges pursue recovery. His journey has also given him opportunities to give back—including passing along his first car to someone else in need after purchasing another vehicle.
"The support someone receives today can become the support they offer someone else tomorrow."

SHAWNEE VALENTINE
A NEW BEGINNING AFTER INCARCERATION
My name is Shawnee V., and I was born in Kansas City, Missouri. When I was an infant, my father left, and my mother raised me until I was eight years old, when I entered the foster care system. I remained in foster care until I was sixteen, when I moved to Dallas to reunite with my mother. After returning to Dallas, I saw that my mother was struggling financially. Wanting to help, I became involved in illegal activities. I was first arrested in 2006 and again in 2011. In 2015, I was paroled to Eden Outreach. That became an important turning point in my life. Eden Outreach provided the encouragement, support, training, and counseling I needed to get back on my feet and begin living a clean and sober life. During my time at Eden, I learned the value of hard work, the importance of humility, and the importance of respecting the law. I also earned certificates and licenses that helped open doors to employment. I went on to work at Enterprise at DFW International Airport and later at the Borden facility in Dallas. I am grateful to God for His mercy and for how far He has brought me. His Word continues to guide my life.
"Eden Outreach provided the encouragement, support, training, and counseling I needed to get back on my feet."
DEBORAH G.
A SAFE PLACE TO CONTINUE THE JOURNEY TESTIMONIAL
I was looking for a faith-based place to continue my recovery when I was blessed to meet Mrs. Odamah. She had a room available in a quiet, peaceful environment, and from our very first meeting, I felt there was something special about Eden Outreach. The first time my daughter, granddaughter, and I met Mrs. Odamah, she prayed with us. I saw the love of Jesus in her, and I knew I had found the right place. Living in a clean and sober community has encouraged me as I continue my journey of sobriety. When I first shared my story, I had been sober for two years and five months. Being surrounded by women who understand the journey, encourage me, and want to see me succeed has meant so much. Without this program and the women who have helped me along the way, I do not know where I would be. I have a grateful heart and a safe place to call home while I continue strengthening my relationship with God and building meaningful relationships with the wonderful people around me. I am thankful for Eden Outreach and for the opportunity to keep moving forward.
"I have a grateful heart and a safe place to call home while I continue moving forward.”

SEAN M.
A STORY OF RECOVERY, INDEPENDENCE & MOVING FORWARD
Sean M. completed Eden Outreach’s two-year Young Adult Transitional Recovery Program, where he lived in a supportive, substance-free environment while working toward greater stability and independence. After successfully completing the program, Sean transitioned back to living with his family and began building the next chapter of his life. His journey reflects many of the goals Eden Outreach hopes to support: sustained recovery, restored family connections, successful reintegration into the community, education, employment readiness, and increasing independence. Sean is completing prerequisite courses at a local community college as he continues pursuing his educational goals. He also owns a car and independently manages transportation for his daily responsibilities and commitments. For Eden Outreach, these everyday milestones represent something much greater. They are signs of stability, responsibility, growth, and a young man continuing to move forward in his recovery and in his life.
From transitional recovery to family, education, and greater independence—Sean continues to move forward.
SONJA T.
A STORY OF RECOVERY, LEADERSHIP & GIVING BACK
Sonja came to Eden Outreach from a treatment center at a time when substance use had disrupted her life, including the loss of her job. She entered Eden’s program looking for a safe, supportive environment where she could continue her recovery and begin rebuilding. Sonja successfully completed the program, but her journey with Eden did not end there. As she grew in stability and responsibility, she became a House Mother, helping welcome new residents and supporting them as they adjusted to life in the program. Known for being caring and dependable, Sonja used what she had learned through her own journey to encourage other women as they worked toward their own goals. She helped new residents get situated, offered support, and became part of the community that helps make recovery at Eden a shared journey. Eventually, Sonja was ready to take another step forward. She transitioned from Eden Outreach to reunite with her family and has continued living clean and sober through the years. Today, Sonja works as a caregiver—a fitting continuation of a journey in which receiving support grew into a life of supporting and caring for others.
She came to Eden seeking support. In time, she became a source of support for others.

MS. S. ENGLISH
A STORY OF SHELTER, COMPASSION & NEW BEGINNINGS
Ms. S. English was working but struggling to earn enough income to meet her living expenses. When she could no longer afford her apartment, she found herself facing homelessness and without a safe place to go. In a moment of uncertainty, she reached out to Eden Outreach for help. Eden responded by opening its doors to her in the middle of the night and providing a safe place when she needed one most. Having stable housing gave Ms. English an opportunity to move beyond the immediate crisis and begin working toward greater stability. Her experience reflects an important part of Eden Outreach’s mission: meeting people during vulnerable moments with practical support, compassion, and a place where a new beginning can take root. In her own words: “I had nowhere to go and would have ended up on the streets if you had not opened your doors for me and taken me in. I am very grateful to Mrs. Odamah.”
